Namibia Entry Requirements: We’ve compiled all important information that you need to know when travelling to Namibia in the southern part of Africa.

Residents of 31 countries will require a holiday visa to visit Namibia from 1 April 2025

Namibia’s cabinet has approved the implementation of visa entry requirements for 31 countries that have not reciprocated Namibia’s gesture of visa exemption, effective 1 April 2025. Residents of the following countries will require a visa on arrival:

Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cambodia, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal,
Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Vatican/Holy See, Venezuela, Vietnam.

Applying for a visa arrival

How to apply for a Namibia holiday visa in 2025

  1. If you intend to stay a maximum of 30 days you can apply for the visa online.
  2. Should you intend to stay longer than 30 days you need to apply on arrival in Namibia. 
The following is required for a Visa on arrival:
  • Register an account on the Portal of the Ministry Of Home Affairs and Immigration
  • A Passport valid for minimum 6 months from the date of departure with at least 3 blank pages
  • Completed Visa Form
  • Proof Of Accommodation Bookings
  • Travel Insurance
  • Proof Of Funds / Income
  • Flight Ticket

In-person visa on arrival applications can be processed at the following ports of entry:

  • Hosea Kutako International Airport
  • Ariamsvlei
  • Impalila
  • Katima Mulilo
  • Mohembo

E-Visas can be facilitated at all gazetted Namibian ports of entry except: Rundu Airport, Sarusungu
Border Post, Nkurenkuru Border Post, Keetmanshoop Airport, Klein Manasse Border Post, Lüderitz
Airport, Gobabis Airport, Ondangwa Airport, Dobe Border Post, Grootfontein Airport, Kasika Border
Post, Mpacha Airport, Mata-mata Border Post, Singalamwe Border Post and Vioolsdrift.

Visa on arrival fees Namibia

On the 27th March 2025 the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety & Security issued a notice that amendments became effective with a change in pricing for the visa on arrival, specifically for children and cruise line passengers that are arriving for a day visit.

Adults (12 years +)

N$1,200 for African Union (AU) countries

N$1,600 for non-African Union countries

Children (6-11 years )

N$1,200 for African Union (AU) countries

N$1,600 for non-African Union countries

Children (Under 6 years)

Free of charge for African Union (AU) countries

Free of charge for non-African Union countries

Cruise Line Passengers

Visitors arriving in Namibia via Walvis Bay or Lüderitz harbours pay a day visit fee of only N$300

Checklist: Online Visa On Arrival Application

  1. Ensure all passports are valid for 6 months from the intended date of departure and have 3 entire blank pages
  2. IF you have children under 18 years of age that accompany you, get the documentation ready as outlined below on this page.
  3. Book the flights and download the tickets including the return flight
  4. Book your accommodation and download the booking confirmation for the first and last accommodation
  5. Download proof of funds in the form of a bank statement or screenshot of balance
  6. Scan a passport photo (JPEG, PNG only)
  7. Scan your passport (PDF only)
  8. Register an account on the E-Services portal
  9. Complete the required survey
  10. Upload passport photo + passport copy
  11. Submit the payment via the online payment portal
  12. Track your online visa application status
  13. If approved, print out the approval letter with QR code and bring physical copies of all of the above documents

Visa and passport

The following regulations apply for your passport:

  • The passport needs to be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date when you plan on leaving Namibia.
  • There need to be at least 3 empty pages in your passport. Please note that you might be refused entry if there are not 3 blank pages in your passport.

Different types of visas to enter Namibia

Tourist Visa

Visitors can enter Namibia for a maximum period of 90 days for every 180 days with a tourist visa. Citizens of most country’s can get a visa on arrival and don’t need to apply for a tourist visa. Please refer to the visa policy of Namibia to see if you need to apply for any visa in advance for your travel.

Work Permit & Visa

If you are planning to perform any kind of work in Namibia it is crucial to get a work permit or work visa depending on the length of your stay. It is not legally permitted to do any kind of work (even unpaid) when travelling with a tourist visa.

Digital Nomad Visa

Namibia introduced the Digital Nomad Visa which enables participants to work remotely in Namibia for a maximum period of 6 months when meeting all of the requirements. Please note that applicants need to be employed or self-employed in addition to having a steady monthly income in order to qualify.

Travelling with children under 18 years

Always carry unabridged birth certificates

In order to combat child trafficking, Namibia introduced new immigration rules in 2016 related to travel with children under the age of 18 years. Parents are now required at all times to carry the original or certified copy of the unabridged birth certificate. The full unabridged birth certificate should list the child’s particulars and both parents’ particulars.

Children traveling in the absence of 1 biological parent

Adults travelling with children where they are not the biological or legal guardians of those children should be in possession of an affidavit statement from the child’s parents giving consent for their travel. If a child is travelling with only one of the parents, the other parent should give consent for travel in the form of an affidavit signed by a commissioner of oath.

Children traveling alone

Children under 18 that are travelling alone to Namibia are required to provide the following:

  • proof of consent from one or both parents/legal guardians in the form of a signed affidavit
  • a letter from the person receiving the child including their residential address where the child will be staying

If one of the parents is deceased

If one or both of the biological parents are deceased, a death certificate needs to be presented that matches the name of the biological parents as it appears on the children’s birth certificate.

Arriving in Namibia

Most of the international flights arrive at the Hosea Kutako International Airport near Windhoek

Visa Counter

After you exit the plane you will arrive at the visa counters. Ensure that you stand in the correct queue and that you receive the correct entrance stamp for the duration of your visit to Namibia.

Customs

Should you have anything to declare to customs, then proceed to the left exit “Customs Red-route”. If not, proceed to the right “Customs nothing to declare” and put your baggage on the scanner.

Buy a sim card

You can purchase a Namibian sim card at the MTC counter right at the airport. We recommend to get prepaid data packages with mobile data, free minutes and free SMS called “Aweh Bundles”.

Vaccinations & diseases

Yellow fever

Visitors above the age of 9 months need to present a yellow fever vaccination IF:

  • You are travelling from an area with a risk of yellow fever transmission
  • You have spent 12 or more hours in transit in a country with a high risk of yellow fever transmission in Africa or South America.

Recommended vaccinations for Namibia

Most healthcare professionals recommend the following vaccinations for Namibia:
Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Rabies, Measles, Chickenpox, Flu, Polio, Shingles, Typhoid and Tetanus.

Please be sure to consult your doctor to get professional advice in this regard.

Risk of diseases

Malaria: Depending on the areas where you plan to travel, there is a risk for Malaria in Namibia. High risk areas include the northern parts like Etosha, Caprivi, Ovamboland as well as the north-western part around the Kunene river. Refer to this map to identify risk zones for malaria across Namibia. Note that the risk of malaria transmission is also dependent on the time where between November to June is the highest risk for transmission.

Schistosomiasis: Also known as Bilharzia, is caused by parasitic worms that live in fresh water. There is a high risk of transmission in fresh water including Okavango river, Kunene river as well as any water which is standing. It is highly recommend to avoid swimming, touching, bathing or drinking any freshwater in Namibia that does not come out of a borehole.

Yes, immigration officials at the Namibian point of entry strictly enforce the presentation of full unabridged birth certificates for children. Don’t be surprised if they refuse entry in the case that you forgot the birth certificates.

At the point of entry immigration officials will give you a maximum of 90 days on a tourist visa. It’s possible to request a tourist visa extension from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration but you need to provide a valid reasons and officials may reject your application for a visa extension.
